Vorchtenheim...The aftermath

Post by StephenReynolds » Tue Jul 23, 2013 12:04 pm

It was over...It was finally over...The hurt and pain that had bought them to this place, this time all threatened to overwhelm Scale. But he had stuff to deal with. Many had superficial injuries that if they weren't treated would fester and rot.

Danik seemed to be closing or confirming he'd closed whatever portal or rip the death of the shard of I'Dome, the Earth Mother, the Puppet Master had caused.

Scale moved between those who were sat too exhasuted to mvoe any futher offering water and stictching up wounds as required. He felt invigorated. The Healing Bomb had removed what superficial injuries he had and allowed him to remove his hand from staunching Aloras wounds. His armour was tattered and his throat hoarse but other than that he was alive.

A doubt still lingering in him. Something Aki had said the night before, repeated by the voices they'd heard whilst approaching this place. It can't have been true...It can't have been...Scale shook his head and reached for a water bottle.

'Does anyone need any water? Is anyone still bleeding?'

*Gregor steps away from Wolfgang, leaving him with his thoughts, and the relic. Time later to talk to him, if he wanted. Or not. Instead, Gregor looked around the field. Most people standing, many others slumped in exhaustion, but most were unwounded after the healing had swept the battlefield. Though his damn leg wasn't working right... time for that later.*

So, where's the nearest damn circle? I've got an appointment with something strong and alcoholic.

Ira sat quietly, out of the way of the few people left to be healed. Her head span with echoes of the battle and the use of magic to protect herself had left her body drained. Closing her eyes she let her thoughts drift, the faces of friends who had chosen to go to the vault flickered before her eyes and worry consumed her.

Alora sat up slowly, the effects of the healing bomb revitalising her, and gave a nod of thanks to Scale. She gathered her things, and made her rounds of the group, fixing up any injuries she came across.

Although physically fine, the mental exhaustion of the last few days finally caught up to her. Alora threw her bag upon the floor, and sat down unceremoniously a few metres away from the group, before bursting into tears. She knew that they'd technically won, and the world was now a blank canvas, ready to be shapen into something beautiful and new. But, without her Earth Mother, her gods, what was the point anymore? She was a priest with nobody to follow.

Lissa staggers to her feet, armour in tatters, slightly confused by the sudden healing. Looking around she tries to take stock, determine whether it is over and whether they have succeeded.

Automatically she starts doing an internal role call as she looks around and spots the members of the Order: Eloise. Duncan. Tiberius. Gregor. Isaac; still can't believe I didn't see the family resemblance... Skorm and Matthew? No, they went to the Vault. Verity? No, no of course, stupid, stupid. She takes a deep breath, blinks back the tears, and continues, seeking out other friends: Faussett, Etsuko, Ira, Scale, Suran... Gradually she realises that all the bodies around them are demons and starts to relax a little.

Seeing Alora sobbing she goes over and sits beside her. Unable to think of anything to say, she offers her water bottle.

The battle was done, prices paid and victory achieved, everyone else saw to their wounds Wolfgang just looked ahead the sun was bearing down and the dust still catching up in large clouds that choked the throat and blinded the eyes, it was another summer for Vorchtenheim.

And yet the world just felt cold and detached.

His clothes where covered in her blood, every breath had the tang of copper to it, all he could do was stand looking up to the oppressive sun over head clutching the shards of the first sword with his hand.

*With a slight effort Gregor shoulders his hammer, and looking at the sombre faces around him, uncharacteristically grins.*

Right, get your behinds up lads and lasses, the weather here gets terrible overnight I hear. Anyone remember where the damn ritual circle is, we could go find it whilst Danik finishes Daniking over there. We do have a few spare mages in case we end up carrying his magical arse out of here right? Unless of course you're not wondering how the other half managed, I bloody well am.

Fallon eased herself up from her haunches. She was still coming to terms with what had happened. One moment she was hovering over someone making sure their guts were not about to fall out, the next well she was not quite sure. Something had happened, the end had come and was presented before them and now they had been victorious. Right? Perhaps now was not the best time to ponder too much on things and simply stick to the knowledge that they had survived.

The Silurian only gave a quick nod to Father Gregor in agreement to his words, "I'll start back tracking. The ritual circle can't be too far after all."

Alora looked up as Lissa offered her water, and took the drink, wiping her eyes. She smiled her thanks, not yet capable of words. As she looks up, and sees Wolfgang standing alone, she started crying again.

Lissa puts an arm around Alora as she cries, wishing she was better with words, feeling the inadequacy of being unable to help someone who has healed her so many times.

After a few moments, when Alora's crying begins to abate slightly, Lissa speaks tentatively. 'Gregor is right, Alora. We need to move out...'

It all snaps back again and what was happening now begins to flood in. Her crying woke him too the world, and he heard the order to move, and with silence he begins to walk making his way back.

Alora slowly rights herself, and gets to her feet. She suddenly hugs Lissa, feeling overwhelmed with the care the human has shown her, even though they don't know each other very well. She may not have her gods, but her friends still remain.

With that thought, she turns to where Wolfgang is walking towards the group, and runs at him, embracing him next.

He exhales deeply as Alora embraces him then bloody burnt and cut arms wrap around her in an embrace he chokes, not on the dust kicked up around the battlefield but from tears he couldn't speak no words came from his mouth as he held Alora close.

Years of war, hardship and bloodshed was not enough too stop the tears and sadness he felt for his oldest friend and the guilt for what he just done to her.

Lissa stands up, conscious that few people have yet started moving. Time to get practical - damned if they'd all made it this far only to fall victim to Vorchtenheim itself.

'Come on people. Gregor is right - we need to get out of here, now. You need to get up, get moving.'

She moves around, helping one person after another to their feet.

Alora continues to cry, head pressed into Wolfgang's chest, her tears mixing with the blood, sweat and dust coating his gambeson. An apologetic look crosses her face; embarrassed at crying so much in front of the group of people she respected most in the world. She attempts to look composed, but her lip wobbles as she talks.

"Is it over, Paddy? Is it finally over?"
